Amazon.com Product Description
Toshiba's Regza line of TVs marry state-of-the-art technology to hip design. One feature that sets them apart is PixelPure 14-bit digital video processing, which creates more than 4,000 levels of color gradations for a smooth, natural-looking picture without posterization or image banding. Another benefit is a fast response time. Response time is the interval an LCD screen takes to from its darkest color to its lightest color and back again, measured in milliseconds (ms). This screen's response time is 8 ms, which is at the faster and better end of the spectrum. This screen is likely to display cleaner, sharper images during high-action scenes and with fewer image artifacts than other screens in its class. This technology is housed in a black gloss cabinetry that is sure to fit well with most any decor. The 37HL67 has a panel resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. This qualifies it as 720 progressive-line HDTV, which is a noticeably better picture than standard definition sets, but not as detailed as the 1080 HD sets available. Its 16:9 wide screen aspect ratio delivers most movies the way they were meant to be seen in the theater, without back bars wasting the top and bottom of the screen. The Value of LCD TVs Aside from their obvious aesthetic value, LCD TVs are much more practical in the home than CRT (tube-style) televisions. They take up a smaller footprint, and thus use up less floor space in the room. Also, LCD TVs are lighter and easier to move around when cleaning or redecorating. The 37HL67 is only 4.65 inches deep and weighs less than 35 pounds. Best of all, LCD screens use less power than CRTs and plasma screens. Connections The set has a built-in digital television tuner, so out of the box it can receive digital broadcast ATSC signals and QAM signals used by most digital cable providers. It also has a built-in 181-channel NTSC tuner, so it can also accept traditional analog signals. It can also make these connections to your audio and video components: - HDMI inputs: 3
- ColorStream HD component video inputs: 2
- PC monitor input: 1 VGA 15 Pin D-sub
- S-video input: 1
- A/V inputs: 2
Audio The unit's SoundStrip speaker system hides the unit's speakers in a thin strip bordering the screen. They're powerful enough to deliver big stereo sound, but they don't add significantly to the size of the set. Toshiba's StableSound feature maintains television volume within a preset range regardless of the source signal. This is an extremely useful feature when transitioning between a quiet television program and a very loud commercial advertisement or when changing channels. SRS WOW, a combination of SRS 3D, TruBass, and Focus sound-expanding systems, create a 3-D sound field with improved bass response over standard TV audio and create directed, three-dimensional audio sweet spot for maximum enjoyment. The TV also has optical digital output for connecting to your audio system. 37-inch wide screen A general rule of thumb for selecting the right size television screen is that the screen width--not its 37-inch diagonal measurement--should be between three and five times the optimum viewing distance, such as the distance from the TV screen to where your eyes are while sitting on the couch. Less than that and you may be distracted by the scan lines of the picture. More than that, and you may lose the detail of your TV. Based on this guide, the 37HL67 is ideal for viewing distances of 8 to 14 feet. What's in the Box 37HL67, stand, 4-item universal remote, stand, warranty and product manuals.

Summary: Fantastic set - no complaints !!! 2008-05-19
Comment: Bought this a few months ago - tinkered around with all the settings - hooked it up to my PS3(80gb model - the best!!) - used DVD & blu-ray calibration disks to fine-tune and after endless hours of experimentation the results are satisfying - if not spectacular.
1) Connections - has more than what you might normally need, unless you are a hardcore techie setting up a really hifi home-theater setup. Go thru the specs
2) Audio - from a layman's perspective(& I would consider myself slightly up the curve compared to a layman), audio is excellent. Bass is terrific - (pseudo)surround-sound works like magic with TV programs that broadcast in surround sound - it is not tinny to hear. Supports optical digital out which might be downmixed to dolby pro-logic. That should not matter in case you are feeding audio from your sources to your home-theater receiver. IMP NOTE - if you hook-up your AV source to this TV via HDMI, audio is downmixed to 2-ch LPCM. (Note that LPCM is pure uncompressed, better than compressed formats like dolby digital or DTS, channel for channel - of course, this is 2-ch so again recommendation is to connect your AV source to your home theater receiver).
3) Video - this is spectacular. This TV is billed as a 1080i but make no mistake it accepts full 1080p inputs. The result (my viewing distance is around 8 ft) is indistinguishable from an equivalent 1080p (I spent tons of hours in research and comparison). Colors, detail & sharpness are ourstanding when watching BD movies from my PS3 hooked up via HDMI. Absolutely no complaints.
IMP NOTE - it is essential that you spend time calibrating all the myriad pic options to suit you best. I found that if I started by setting all options "dead center or middle" and then tweaking each one as high as my eye found pleasing, with final fine-tuning touches by using calibration DVDs, results were spectacular. Spend time on these calibrations and your labors will be rewarded.
I DO NOT have HD TV transmission - have regular DirecTV but the results are still VERY GOOD. Yes, there is a slight smudginess etc(will be there when you watch regular transmission on ANY HDTV) but this one likely deals with it in the best possible way. The results are as if you are watching the best quality VHS tape and oh yes - the south asian channels that I get - for some reason look almost HD-like on this TV.
I got it on sale for 839/- and in its size-class this is probably the best one for the price, still!!!! Go TOSHIBA REGZA!!!

Summary: Great value for a good tv! 2008-05-06
Comment: We have owned this for about 6 months now and haven't had any problems. THe picture is beautiful, can look a bit pixelized if your too close but I do believe this TV is meant to be viewed at around 10 - 15 feet away. The sound is nice, could be a bit more powerful but most people (including us) go through a stereo these days.
We have digital cable and it looks great, DVD's great also. Those are really the only two we've tried on it, I would imagine analog cable wouldn't look too bad nor would VHS tapes. It does take a bit long to power up, but no more than 30 seconds if I had to guess, it'd be more like 20. We bought this on sale when it was just 800/850ish which is an amazing value compared to other LCD's of it's size. We did order it through amazon with the extended warrenty, which I suggest. It was delivered rather quickly and amazon hires out a company to come delivery and set it up for you.
Set up looked easy to me, and I probably will be able to do it again by myself easy. There are enough inputs for our cable, dvd/vhs player and PS2 and then some. I did my research and I couldn't be happier with what we paid!

Summary: Great Flat Screen 2008-05-05
Comment: Finally, I can review a product I am happy with overall in price, shipping, and timeliness of receipt without any problems. Great overall picture with good clarity, and I really enjoy having a 37" screen. However, I have 2 issues: 1 is that when showing videos on this television, they are very fuzzy and the picture comes out quite badly. Perhaps I need to read up on screen readjustments for videos, and 2, the volume control seems to not work properly. At 45, it just seems normally loud, but doesn't get as loud as I think it should. If I were to put my 27" Sony that is downstairs at 45, I'd blast the roof off!
