Amazon.com Product Description

High-definition viewing will take your breath away--and so will this high-quality, high-value, high-definition Olevia LCD TV. The widescreen, 32-inch LT32HV is perfect for style- and budget-conscious home theater buffs looking to integrate it with any of a range of video sources, from DTV set-top receivers to DVD players and VCRs. More than just a high-quality TV, the set's PC inputs make it equally suitable for home offices. The 1,366 x 768 (WXGA) LT32HV is even upgradeable to full-fledged HDTV status: you can replace its NTSC tuner module with an ATSC/DTV-capable tuner at a future date, improving the TV's already-excellent use of space. See further down this page for more explanation of Super-IPS versus competing LCD technologies.

A stunningly attractive black-and-charcoal bezel frames the high-quality flat-panel screen. Super-IPS (super-in-plane-switching) technology heightens color saturation, broadens viewing angles, sharpens images, boosts response time, and minimizes the visible color shift and distortion from any angle, resulting in exceptional, 178-degree viewing angles (for excellent picture quality from any seat in the room), a vivid 1,200:1 contrast ratio, and an incredible 8 ms response time for seamless, ghost-free, full-motion images with even the most demanding video games and action films. The TV also boasts an impressive brightness rating of 800 cd/m2.

LCD screens offer a number of benefits over CRT monitors and televisions, including general ease of use, freedom from eye strain (no screen flickering or radiation emissions), quiet operation (no high-pitch "flyback" noise, an issue with CRT TVs), accurate image geometry (no curvature distortion or susceptibility to magnetic interference from, say, speakers), long screen life, and light weight/easy positioning. They also tend to be more affordable than their flat-panel plasma counterparts, which often (though not always) offer faster response times and higher contrast ratios. The TV's thin profile--just 4.6 inches--makes it easy to attach the set to a wall using an optional VESA-standard mounting kit (model WM-15D).

The LT32HV performs 3:2 pulldown detection and reversal, too--a handy feature for watching progressive-scan movie programs in their native 24-frame format. To adapt 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video, frames in the original movie must be duplicated; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this duplication by removing the redundant information to display a frame-accurate picture.

A 3D Y/C digital comb filter further enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt).

The set has connections to spare, sporting a pair of HD-capable component-video inputs (480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i), analog and digital PC inputs (15-pin D-Sub VGA and DVI-I with HDCP), and 3 each S-video and composite-video inputs. When connected to a PC using the analog input (monitor cable supplied), the TV functions as a high-quality multimedia display with the ability to simultaneously show TV or DVD movies on half the screen while letting you surf the Internet and access e-mail or PC documents on the other half. Dual built-in NTSC TV tuners permit split-screen, multi-image tiling, and picture-in-picture (PIP) viewing.

A pair of speakers driven by 15 watts each deliver high-quality sound. Want to enhance the sound from your movies and TV programs? Feed the set's dedicated subwoofer output to a stand-alone powered subwoofer to enjoy additional punch and an further degree of realism from your movies and music.

Other features include a built-in alarm clock, a sleep timer, V-Chip parental controls, auto dialogue tone correction, auto volume leveling (minimizing drastic swings in listening level between program and commercial), simulated surround sound, favorite channel, last-channel recall, closed captioning, and a multilingual menu accommodating English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Swedish, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese.

What's in the Box
TV, remote control, remote batteries, 1 VGA monitor cable, 1 composite-video/stereo analog audio AV cable, an AC power cord, warranty information, and a user's manual.

Super-IPS and How LCD Technology Works
A Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) panel is made up of liquid crystal material, which arranges itself to either let light pass through or not. Each pixel contains the three primary colors; red, green and blue. Traditional Liquid Crystal material allows for direct viewing, but at wide viewing angles the image is distorted. TN liquid crystal molecules when switching on

What is Super-IPS?
Super-IPS (super in-plane switching) technology is a collaborative technology between LG. Philips LCD, Philips Consumer Electronics, Hitachi and Zenith. Super-IPS (Super In-Plane Switching) solves the problems outlined above by using a switching mode that keeps all of the molecules in the plane of the display at all times so that light passing through the display at an angle is not treated differently than light passing straight through the display. As a result, brightness, contrast and color rendition are much more constant regardless of viewing location.

While this Olevia model uses Super-IPS technology, some competing models use VA mode LCD technology. VA mode can offer higher contrast ratios when viewed straight on, but Super-IPS offers less color shift and higher contrast ratios as the viewing angles go up.

Summary: great tv for the money 2007-06-20
Comment: sadly, i will be giving up this gem soon for a larger set. i purchased my set in august of 2005. i was skeptical of a 'no-name' brand, but every review i had read was glowing. so i decided to chance it and purchased the lcd for just under 1100 from buydig.

after using this tv for almost tv, i have not experienced any major problems. the blacks are black on this set. the colors vivid. i have a media pc hooked to it via dvi as well as a xbox 360 and hddvd player. all look fantastic.

the only problem i had was with the battlestar galactica miniseries dvd; the red balance seemed to be off a bit, but only with that dvd, so the problem may have been a problem with the dvd compression.

the speakers are definitely weak on this tv. however, if you are using this as a main tv, i would recommend using a stereo receiver for your primary audio. what can you expect with a pair of 15 watt panel speakers anyways?

also the remote control response time is a bit slow and switching between components take a few seconds longer than your average television. but that being the only major problem was worth the $750-1000 i had saved on a comparable name-brand set.

Summary: Screen busted within 18 months - TV now totally useless 2006-08-02
Comment: I bought the Olevia 30" through Amazon back in March 2005 (at a cost of $1150 plus delivery at the time) ... a few days ago - Saturday July 29 2006, the screen suddenly went black and the TV died - the sound still worked but no vision. I had a TV expert friend look at it yesterday - and he said that it has gone for good ...

Lasted less than 18 months --- so much for the 12 month warranty.

My recommendation - stay away from Ovelia ... majorly disappointed - and have to falk out $800 for a replacement ....

Summary: Customer Service at it's Best! 2006-06-18
Comment: This is the third review I have written on Amazon after using their services for over 5 years.

Just like many of us, I have had a lot of experience with retailer customer service and The Synstax Corporation has been just about the best.

They answered their phones right away, they e-mailed me right away, they sent out a tech in a few days, that could not fix the TV, and then sent me a new TV with shipping of my borken one paid to go back!

I'm very impressed!

Summary: Surprisingly Outstanding Performance 2006-01-23
Comment: I purchased an Olevia Syntax 32HVE last July 2005 on impulse. It was very inexpensive for the size and I knew could take it back if I was not satisfied. The picture quality has been outstanding from the start. No dead pixels. Suprisingly good audio and reasonably well thought-out features. When I finally set up HD using HDMI connections, it really shined! The picture is often breathtaking.

Today I connected my PC to it and it works well. I can criticize some of the limitations in PIP combinations and I really wish it had a separate audio input for VGA and HDMI, but I doubt the LCDs twice this price have all this TV's features.

One surprising thing about this TV. Almost everyone that sees it insists its 40" or larger when in fact it is a 32" model.

We have since purchased a second LT32HV in the family and are very pleased with the value for the money on both.
