Product Description

The AQUOS brand evokes images of the fluidity of liquid crystal and serves to emphasize the elegant design and superior performance consumers have come to expect from Sharp products. As an example, the AQUOS line offers a long-life backlight (60, 000 hours), multiple video signal inputs (component, S-Video and composite), built-in cable TV tuner, remote control, V-Chip and high brightness for more vibrant colors in darker environments. The AQUOS televisions are efficient in that they consume 60-percent-less power than comparably sized CRT direct-view televisions.Perfect for the family living room or intimate home theater setting, this 30-inch AQUOS liquid crystal television with WXGA resolution (1280 x 768) delivers high-definition display capability (720p) that enables viewers to watch high-definition television (HDTV) broadcasts in 16: 9 format. To accompany the picture, the detachable speakers included with the LC-30HV2U provide high-quality audio output. In addition, the innovative, separate Audio Video Computer (AVC) system, included with the LC-30HV2U, houses component audio, video and computer (PC) inputs and outputs, and reduces the clutter of cables around the panel itself, creating a clean, stylish look. The TV also features the redesigned stand that makes transportation and setup easy. With the included stand or optional mounting brackets, this widescreen AQUOS television can be placed on a wall, on a bookshelf or almost anywhere imaginable in the home.
Amazon.com Product Description

The LC-30HV2U LCD TV combines the elegance of Sharp's AQUOS design with a widescreen, 30-inch Advanced Super View panel that's fully compatible with PCs and high-definition sources (including high-definition PC sources). The 1,280 x 768-resolution LC-30HV2U offers a 16:9 aspect ratio to match your favorite movies, as well as high-definition resolution (progressive-scan 720p). At a mere 3.55 inches deep, the set is perfect for wall mounting, though it comes with a table stand for desktop positioning. The set also includes detachable speakers with 10 watts per channel audio power.

LCD screens offer a number of benefits over CRT monitors and televisions, including general ease of use, freedom from eye strain (no screen flickering or radiation emissions), quiet operation (no high-pitch "flyback" noise, an issue with CRT TVs), accurate image geometry (no curvature distortion or susceptibility to magnetic interference from, say, speakers), long screen life (with no risk of image burn-in), space savings, and light weight/easy positioning. They also tend to be cheaper and, to some eyes, slightly more natural looking than their plasma flat-panel counterparts, which usually "spec" higher (higher brightness, higher contrast ratio).

The Advanced Super View screen offers exceptionally wide (170- by 170-degree) viewing angles and an exceptionally high contrast ratio of 500:1 for super-black blacks. Its high brightness (430 cd/m2) ensures wide dynamic range for vivid colors, great depth, and realism. You can place it anywhere--near windows, doors, or other light sources--and its picture will remain vivid. And, with its 60,000-hour lamp life, the backlight life is long enough to give you viewing pleasure for many years. A built-in 181-channel tuner lets you plug your cable TV right into the LC-30HV2U and start watching.

Two-tuner POP (picture-on-picture) includes a pair of independent cable TV tuners so you can watch two programs side-by-side, or record one program while watching another.

Being too thin to house its many connections (14 inputs total, including a digital 15-pin RGB HD input, 2 high-definition component-video inputs, 4 each S-video and composite-video, and an XGA-resolution PC input), the LC-30HV2U comes with a stand-alone AVC System--a set-top box that houses all terminals, minimizes clutter, and preserves the panel's austere look. Choose from composite- or S-video outputs and an accompanying stereo analog audio output (left/right RCA) with selectable fixed/variable output levels, depending on your designs. For greater placement flexibility, Sharp makes an optional 30-foot extension cable for this device, model AN-PZAVC1.

What's in the Box
LCD TV, detachable speakers, a remote control, remote batteries, AVC system (set-top box with all terminals), 1 system cable, 2 AC power cords, a table stand, and a user's manual.

Summary: Great while it lasted... 2006-02-25
Comment: I got a little more than 2 years out of my Sharp 30" HV2U. It was a great set while it lasted. The LCD display finally started giving out and I think that was due to the fact that many of the first Aquos LCD displays had issues.

I would recommend buying it new for under $2G but I caution anyone against buying it used/refurbished. Just spend the extra cash and, if you can, get the extended warranty too. It certainly helped me so that I didn't eat the whole cost of the unit when I had to have it fixed.

I've since upgraded to a much larger set but I was quite happy with the Sharp unit and would have hung on to it. They make a fine product but I don't think it's as good as Philips or Samsung LCD products.
