Olevia 342i 42-Inch LCD HD Ready Monitor

Comment: I know nothing of modern televisions but I know spectacular when I see it and this set is more than that. Breathtaking visuals, Sound that makes you believe you are in a theatre with the finest system in the business, and colors that are so blinding they seem to leap from the screen and engulf your eyes. I did a lot of research before buying this set and still didn't understand what I needed. When the rabbit ears on my old set finally couldn't be taped so they'd stand up anymore, I just finally picked a tv at random and this is what I got. I could not be more excited but the only downside is I had to finally get cable. But even cable alone is so amazing I can't believe it! Expensive, but I don't know if anyone really knows how much there is on all those channels. It looks like you could spend the rest of your life just surfing through all those stations. But this set does that with no problem at all. I never dreamed that any television could make movies look so real that the action seems to be taking place right in the middle of the living room. When there are gunshots, you will find yourself not just flinching but taking cover, especially if you're a veteran. Explosions are just horrific! We watched the movie 2012 last night and feel as if we have PTSD. It was an experience that was just too much to handle. The scenes where the car was outrunning the meteors and the ground was splitting open was gut wrenching suspense right in front of our couch! It took me three days to hook this television up and finally had to get a neighbor kid to help me out. But once plugged in, it fired right up. The only thing is that if you watch Airport 75 like I did this morning, I suggest you get a seatbelt for your chair because it is so realistic. Ear protection like ground crews wear at the airport would also help with the roar of the jet engines. I'm telling you, this is a whole new experience and you won't even believe the giant leap in technology for tv's there's been since I bought my Philco black and white set 35 years ago. Get ready for the time of your life!!! My wife is sitting stunned at the kitchen table this morning, just staring over her coffee cup, and hasn't said a word sinced last night. That is real entertainment and it turns out this set is worth the expensive price I paid. Even if it breaks tomorrow, we won't forget what we've already seen and it's already paid for itself!

Comment: for no reason we can identify the video aspect of this display just died and flickers back and forth between red/blue/green/white/black. It was not dropped, there was no power surge, and it was very carefully handled. Just took it off the base to wall mount it and now dead. Would not buy another one.

Comment: This LCD is packed with great features, fantastic picture quality and connects right to your cable box so you don't need a tuner anyway! It has an easy wheel menu for your settings, you can adjust the picture to the brightness of the room and it's a snap to connect your DVD player and HD and I can even hook my laptop to it for a huge monitor. I can't say enough good things about this product. Olevia is soon to be a force to be reckoned with in the electronics world if they keep coming up with products of this quality and value!

Comment: The review in Consumer Reports influenced our decision to buy an Olevia and we are very pleased with the monitor. We aren't TV watchers, but we do watch DVD's and the picture quality from this monitor is very good. It's clear and detailed. Also, the monitor is in a very bright room and the picture is not adversely affected by the brightness. And, the good price also made the buy very appealing!
