Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. JVC's Natural Progressive improvement technology further optimizes signal quality before a picture is displayed. Using 10.95 million pixels, Natural Progressive technology doubles the image data in each field and uses advanced 3D interpolation to eliminates jagged edge noise and image trails and display a solid image with no noticeable scan lines.
The set also features updated DSD (Digital Super Detail) circuitry, HD DSD, TheaterPro 6500K color temperature, Digital Noise Clear circuitry, and dual-tuner PIP with multi-indexing.
At the touch of a button you can activate JVC's Natural Cinema 3-2 Pull Down, a handy feature for watching progressive-scan movie programs in their native 24-frame format. Digital video mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; Natural Cinema 3-2 Pull Down digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture.
The set's standard, 4:3 aspect ratio is perfect for viewing broadcast and cable content, and the set offers assorted ways to configure widescreen content. Maximum enjoyment of anamorphic DVDs is just a button push away with 16:9 raster compression. This mode uses all available scan lines to represent a letterboxed (widescreen) movie image, wasting none on creating the black bars that frame a widescreen image.
A 16 MEGA 10-bit 3D Y/C comb filter enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt).
The AV-32DF74's stereo speakers are powered by a generous 10 watts each, and the TV receives not only stereo broadcasts, but Second Audio Programming (or SAP), too. Hyper Surround simulates surround sound from any 2 speakers, and BBE High-Definition Sound improves speech intelligibility and restores the dynamic range of compressed musical passages.
Dual auto-sensing component-video inputs accept video from 480i, 480p, or 1080i sources, while interlaced (480i) S-video and standard RCA composite-video inputs accommodate most other video components. The set offers a total of 4 audio/video inputs, one of which is built into the front panel so you can hook up a VCR, camcorder, or gaming console. A rear-panel RF input accommodates older VCRs, cable boxes, and antennas. Want to listen through your stereo? Use the set's stereo, fixed-level analog-audio outputs.
A multifunction timer turns the TV on and off for you when you're not home or works as an alarm clock or program reminder; a sleep timer saves energy by turning off the set after you've nodded off.
Other features include an interactive plug-in menu, a half-tone onscreen display, closed captioning with text display, XDS (Extended Data Service) auto clock set with ID display, and an illuminated universal remote control with DVD, TV, and VCR control ability.

Toshiba to the JVC AV32DF74 32. I paid $700.00 at Video Only in Dublin CA and only have had the unit a couple of days. The TV is well designed for easy connection hook up. I was surprised how well the images were. Even standard network TV images look much sharper, more clear and color is great. I am using my standard Toshiba DVD player, not progressive, and images are very sharp. I highly recommend this TV if you can get it for around $700. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful: By Oregon (Oregon, USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: JVC AV-32DF74 32" HD-Ready Flat-Screen TV (Silver) (Electronics) Great T.V... great HD picture, etc. However, I strongly recommend buying the extended warranty from wherever you purchase it!! Our 32" I'Art AV32DF74 completely went black about 15 months after we bought it... still has sound.. no picture. Estimated repair cost $350... 1/2 of what we paid for it. BUY the WARRANTY -- the repair guy told us that the same drive board to the CRT is used on most JVC models and breaks a lot -- and is a rather spendy part which obviously seems to have QA issues. This review is from: JVC AV-32DF74 32" HD-Ready Flat-Screen TV (Silver) (Electronics) Seven years ago I purchased this TV made by JVC. The picture has been great and the dual tuners have worked awesome. Today the tube went black and then back on. it has done this for a few days but to day it seems to haved stayed that way. I am going to sale the TV as is so someone who loves to fix things others can't can get a great TV in the process. Really nice system. |
